SUMMER BREAK: MONTROSE POINT BIRD SANCTUARY

Skyline view of Chicago from the Montrose Point Bird Sanctuary

On a hot day in Chicago, the beaches and parks are always crowded with people enjoying the sunshine. However, in the middle of the picnickers, swimmers, sunbathers, and boaters at Montrose Beach, there is shady piece of solitude. The Montrose Point Bird Sanctuary attracts migratory birds during fall and spring and is home to a nesting pair of endangered piping plovers during the summer. At the center of the sanctuary is a woodland area with mulched paths which offers shade, respite from the crowds, and incredible views of the skyline. It’s the perfect spot for a breath of nature without venturing too far from home!
